FAIR TRADING & CODEX DEVELOPMENT DIVISION (FTCD)

About Us
The Division is Secretariat for the Prices Board and the Samoa National Codex Committee (SNCC). It provides advisory services to all stakeholders including traders, consumers and the general public on all matters to do with fair trading and consumer protection.
It enforces and monitors the general requirements of the Fair Trading Act 1998, Consumer Information Act 1989, Measures Ordinance 1960 and the Public Holidays Act 2008; requirements of Price Orders by the Prices Board; and requirements or standards by the National Codex Committee on food products.
ADVISORY FUNCTIONS:
- Provide policy and other advice to the Minister and through the Minister to the Cabinet, on issues pertaining to fair trading, and consumer protection
- Advise all stakeholders including traders, consumers and the general public on all matters to do with fair trading and consumer protection
REGULATORY FUNCTIONS:
- Enforce and monitor the general requirements of the Fair Trading Act 1998, Consumer Information Act 1989, Measures Ordinance 1960 and the Public Holiday Act 2008
View Legislations
- Enforce the requirements of Price Orders by the Prices Board
- Enforce requirements or standards stipulated by the National Codex Committee (NCC), on food products
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as Secretariat for Prices Board and National Codex Committee
- Consult closely with the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on trade related issues, and the
Ministry of Health and the
Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry on food, quality and safety issues
- Assess and attend to training needs of staff
