Apart from his more than ten years as a Minister of State and Associate Minister, Hon. Hans Joachim Keil has been a commercial airline pilot and had served in the United States Air Force.

He has extensive business interests in Samoa owning McDonalds Family Restaurant, TV3 Television Broadcasting Station, Hellaby Meats Ltd and is a major shareholder in Lotto Samoa. He has many other lucrative business investments.
