About Us
The Division administers the registration of companies, incorporated societies, cooperatives, credit unions, charitable trusts, trade marks, patents, industrial designs, instruments and charges in accordance with the relevant legislative requirements under the respective legislation.
We maintain the Companies registry and provide advice and data on companies and other legal entities to various users.
We are also the focal point for the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and as such we coordinate consultations on copyright and intellectual property issues.
Our other functions include advising and monitoring compliance on matters relating to registration of companies, incorporated societies, credit unions, cooperatives, charitable trusts, and intellectual property, and investigate complaints concerning violations of copyright and intellectual property laws.
ADVISORY FUNCTIONS:
- Provides advice to the Minister on matters pertaining to the requirements for the registration of companies, incorporated societies, credit unions, cooperatives, charitable trusts, and intellectual property
- Provides general advice to any interested party on the same
REGULATORY FUNCTIONS:
- Enforces requirements of the Companies Act 2001, Receivership Act 2006, Security Act 2006, Transitional Provisions Act 2006, Charitable Trusts Act 1965, Cooperatives Societies Ordinance 1952, Credit Union Ordinance 1960, Incorporated Societies Ordinance 1952, Copyright Act 1998, Industrial Designs Act 1972, Patents Act 1972, and the Trade Marks Act 1972
administered in this Division of the Ministry.

- Monitors compliance by companies, incorporated societies, cooperatives, and other entities registered under the legislations administered in the Ministry, with their obligations under the law
- Investigates complaints concerning violations of copyright and intellectual property laws
- Provide advice to international organisations on Intellectual Property areas
- Provide data on companies and other legal entities to various users, including the
World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) for Intellectual Property information
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:
- Focal Point of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
- Coordinates consultation with local interest groups (e.g. Musicians Association) on copyright and intellectual property issues
- Maintains and updates registries as required under legislations administered in the Division
- Undertake reviews of legislations administered in the Division in collaboration with Attorney General's Office
- Implement public awareness programme on general requirements of various legislations administered in the Division
- Assess staff capability and institute training to rectify skill deficiencies
