Four New Members Appointed to the Samoa Competition and Consumer Commission

Four new Commissioners have begun their three-year tenure with the Samoa Competition and Consumer Commission following the signing of their contracts at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour.

Apia, 2 July 2026 — Four new members of the Commission have officially begun their three-year tenure with the Samoa Competition and Consumer Commission ("the Commission") following the signing of their contracts today at the Office of the Honourable Minister for the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour (MCIL). The official signing ceremony was witnessed and overseen by the Honourable Minister of MCIL, Fata Ryan Schuster.

The newly appointed members include Tuu'u Anasii Leota, who will serve as the new Chairperson of the Commission, alongside Leulua'ialii Tasi Malifa, Seuamuli Talosaga Moors and Fata Pelenato Ioane. These four new appointments join the existing members, Leaula Mata'afa Dr. Desmond U. Amosa, Papalii Malietau Malietoa, the Regulator and the Chief Executive Officer of MCIL.

As Tuu'u Anasii Leota assumes the chairmanship, the Ministry and the SCCC extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the outgoing Chairperson, Mr Charles Sweeney, for his dedicated leadership, service and valuable contributions during his tenure.

The Commission functions as the statutory body responsible for the oversight and implementation of the Competition and Consumer Act 2016 (CCA). Its regulatory duties focus on driving market competition in Samoa, defining code of conduct benchmarks for local trade, and ensuring a secure marketplace that champions consumer protection, allowing businesses and consumers alike to transact with confidence. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour continues to provide administrative support as the Secretariat to the Commission.
